Fishing

The pure water of the Pyrenees

Lakes again, only this time in the mountains, with the white-water torrents that fall from them. You will find them brimming with minnow, trout, salmon and charr.

Since the Gave d’Oloron is one of Europe’s best salmon rivers, the world salmon-fishing championships are held each year between March and July in the Béarn town of Navarrenx.

Thousands of miles of rivers

Fishing on l'Isle, Périgueux, DordogneThe shaded banks of the Isle which snakes through Périgord, the Midouze in the Landes, the peaceful riversides of the Baïse in Lot-et-Garonne or the Ciron in Gironde… Aquitaine is a land of waterways where time moves somewhat more slowly than it does elsewhere.

Along the Gironde Estuary, the “carrelets” – cabins on stilts – form a landscape that is typical of this part of Aquitaine. On the menu are shrimps from the estuary, eels, and other small fried fish.

Happy fishing!
