Arcachon by bike...

Le réseau des pistes cyclables de Gironde est très développé.The Bassin d’Arcachon is a natural gem: a bay covering some 155 km², dotted with famous beach resorts, villages and oyster farms. A tapestry of rich greens and blues, with sea, sky and forest framing the delicious golden hue of the sandy beaches... and of course the Dune du Pilat, standing 104 metres tall

And the Bassin d’Arcachon is in great shape: the local wildlife has been protected for many years (the wildlife reserve at Audenge, Teich Ornithological Reserve), cycle tracks criss-cross the area with very few hills, and getting from the lighthouse at Cap-Ferret to the winter haven of Arcachon couldn't be easier, with plenty of time to stop for some oysters at Andernos or Gujan-Mestras

Interested? The agency 'Le vélo voyageur' has a range of package deals, with 2, 3 and 7 day programmes starting at Bordeaux and passing via Lacanau, or just focusing on the Bassin d'Arcachon. Stages of 30 to 50km - 3 to 5 hours of cycling per day with plenty of stops and visits to choose from along the way.

As for accommodation, there are a range of options ranging from 'simplicity' to 'luxury', with all hotels checked and approved by agency owners Eugénie et Bérangère.
