CYCLING IN LOT-ET-GARONNE...
Spring has arrived so it’s time to emerge from your burrow! If you fancy a cycling trip, then head to Lot-et-Garonne, a land of greenery, gourmet cuisine, and varied landscapes... where a loooong multi-use trail on the banks of the Canal latéral à la Garonne awaits you.(Photo credit: CDT47)
And what does a canal mean? A flat cycling track. Perfect! This makes it so easy to set out and discover the abundance of riches situated close to this 87 –kilometre trail, from the panorama over the valley at Meilhan-sur-Garonne to the famous canal bridge at Agen, via Le Mas d’Agenais. The trail passes the foot of the town fortifications, a must-see for its Galliana fountain and market hall and the Rembrandt piece housed in the church...
There is also a cycle lane where car circulation is not prohibited, but is resolutely calm. The Departmental Tourism Committee proposes routes which you can draw inspiration from when planning your own route.
Finally, why not take advantage of one of the turnkey holidays on offer, such as the 7-stage route "amongst foie gras and Armagnac" taking in bastide towns and small valleys via Aiguillon, Marmande, Monflanquin... Guests are accommodated on a half-board basis in 2 or 3-star hotels with swimming pools. Download details of the holiday, 227 KB pdf document.
