Dive into the Ocean (City)

Cité de l'Océan à BiarritzIt's THE tourist event of the year on the Basque Coast: on June 26th Biarritz inaugurated the new Ocean and Surf City.

The new centre is an audacious architectural statement, in the form of a wave which creates a sense of situationand harmony 'under the sky and under the sea'. This space will be used to house modern exhibitions, combining scientific significance with an entertaining presentational style.

Plunge into the Abyss (undersea trench) of Capbreton, get inside a barrelling wave like a surfer, step onboard a storm-lashed ship…

The museum also tells the story of the birth of the oceans, and the myths and legends which surround this primeval force, so powerful yet so fragile… A very topical issue.

In parallel with this new attraction, the Biarritz Sea Life Museum has doubled in size with 50 new aquariums. Trace the Gulf Stream back to its Caribbean origins, and beyond Cape Horn to Indonesia, to discover a colourful array of exotic creatures, from barracudas to clown fish via majestic manta rays.

A whole new world to explore.
