Eco-cycling in the Landes
For truly ecological tourism, get on your bike!
All in the capable hands of the network of people in the Landes de Gascogne Park, with 8 guest house or gite owners offering you "freewheeling" breaks.
They are all committed to an eco-responsible approach and are part of the Park's eco-tourism network. They welcome you to an unspoiled environment and hope to share with you their love of the local area, and serve you local produce - often from their own garden…
Regarding the bike rides, your hosts have concocted 2 loop trips starting from their home, taking you through their favourite places, with views of a river, a village square, a fountain or a bread kiln in a "quartier"*… The guidebooks for each day await you.
And to adapt to the expectations of families and keen cyclists alike, these itineraries come in both a short and a long version - 30 to 62 kilometres, with shortcuts possible depending on your fitness level and the weather.
Added to this is the lunchtime picnic and the evening meal with the owners, so you can find out more about the local area. And all this is very eco… nomical: 2 days and 2 nights full board only come to 165 euros per adult (€145 for children). Longer versions are available.
These breaks are available from 1st April to 1st November. If you don't bring your own bike you can hire one (all-terrain bike with saddle bags, anti-theft device and repair kit for 25 euros per day per person).
All you have to do is turn up – and pedal a bit, mind you.
